This year in math class we used a different type of program. This program is called Connected Math 2. This program is very different from the other programs that we have had in the past.
It is called Connected Math because the book wants you to relate math to the world. They want you to be able to relate math to the world because they are trying to tell you that you use math pretty-much everywhere you go. There were eight units that we covered. The units that we covered were Prime Time, Bits and Pieces I, Bits and Pieces II, Shapes and Designs, Covering and Surrounding, and but we did not finish How Likely Is It yet and we did not do Bits and Pieces III.
In Connected Math I have learned a lot of things in Prime Time. For example, I have learned about factors and multiples. Also I have learned a lot of vocabulary. There are twenty-six vocabulary words which are, abundant number, common factor, common multiple, composite number, common factor, conjecture, deficient number, dimensions, divisor, even number, exponent, factor, factor pair, factorization, Fundamental Theorem of Arrhythmic, greatest common factor, least common multiple, multiple, near-perfect number, odd number, perfect number, prime factorization, prime number, proper factors, relatively prime numbers, square number, and Venn diagram. The vocabulary helped me understand the questions more.
There were five investigations in Prime time. There would normally be an investigation number and then a section number. For example, if you were on investigation two, section one; the investigation number would be 2.1. After every investigation there is an A.C.E. A.C.E stands for Applications Connections Extensions. Then after every A.C.E there would be a Mathematical Reflection. A Mathematical Reflection is a reflecting on what you did in that investigation.
In the beginning of every unit there is a list of questions that you could think about while you are going through the units. Also there is a page of mathematical highlights.
In the beginning of the book Prime Time we worked on a special number project. In our note book we had to pick a number and write down facts about that number as we went through the book. We had to list three or four mathematical facts about your number. You also had to tell why you picked that number. Then you had to list three or four connections between you and your number to the real world. I choose the number 11.
There were five investigations in the book Prime Time. Investigation one is called Factors and Products. Investigation two is called Whole-Number Patterns and Relationships. Investigation three is called Common Multiples and Common Factors. Investigation four is called Factorizations: Searching for Factor Strings. Investigation five is called Putting It All Together. In conclusion, I think that the Connected Mathematics program is better than other math programs. I think that this program is better because it helps you understand more things. It helps you understand more things because you connect the math to the real world. Also my favorite book that we went over is Prime Time.
